Flowers at our window

It’s August—the time when we start to wonder where the summer has gone.
We’re not at the end yet—check out the fun events we have planned for you for the entire month!

2025 Up North Reading Road Trip

The Third Annual Reading Road Trip
August 1–31

We had so much fun the first two years that we're doing another Up North Reading Road Trip! Gas up the car and grab your friends or book group members to visit these five great bookstores: Beagle and Wolf Books & Bindery, Big Pine Books, Bluebird Books, Cherry Street Books, and Four Pines. Each store will have special events during the month and surprises just for you.  (Look below to see our special events during the month.) Get a passport at your first stop, have it stamped at each store, and leave it at the last store you visit. It will go in a drawing for a fabulous gift basket. Can't get to all the stores? Visit the ones you can and enjoy the fun each has to offer!

William Kent Krueger’s new Cork O’Connor book, Apostle's Cove, is out September 2—but he got permission from his publisher to visit a few stores, including ours,  before that date!

Join us in the Event Room, 1104 Park Ave. S. at 5:00 on August 29. Kent will speak, followed by a time to have books signed and personalized.

Call the store, 218-237-2665, to order your ticket. Tickets are $35 and include the cost of the book. Plus 1 tickets will also be available for $5.

See Lee's review.

In the Evening, We’ll Dance

This touching and beautifully written memoir was recommended to us by Will Weaver. He says, “Startlingly good, this memoir is powered by grief, memory, and married love distilled to its essence, which is wordlessness. Poetic, literary, yet always accessible, it is certain to find a wide audience.”

Registration is open for Fall Retreats
October 24–26 and October 31–November 2

If you are a sister, have a sister, or know a sister, this year’s fall Reading Retreat will be of interest to you! Join us for the weekend as we kick back and talk about the books below, all linked by our theme of “What IS It About Sisters?”  We’ll all have read the books ahead of time—they’re about pairs of sisters, each set in a different country.

A $100 deposit will hold your spot and will be applied to the cost of the event, which is $395. The first retreat is full, but there are limited openings for the second weekend.

Books and registration forms are available in the store.
